ABOUT ABOUT

Do you know where you’re failing in your marketing strategy?

Effectively marketing yourself and your music is the best way to grow your business as a composer. Period.

There are some universal basics to marketing. If you don’t understand them and how to apply them to what you do as a creative individual and composer you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Give your composition business a kickstart (or a reboot) by learning how to market your music right.

Who are your speaking to?

One of the first things you need to do in building your marketing strategy is to identify your audience. Once you do you know:

  1. What they want
  2. What they’re looking for
  3. What they need
  4. How to speak to them
  5. How to position yourself as the answer to their questions

Don’t think that’s how it works? We can examine just about any composer from any genre and we’ll see how they did this, too.

So What Is the Career-Launching Workshop?

In partnership with the Music Department of Columbia College of Chicago, The Portfolio Composer presents the Career-Launching Workshop for Composers.

This is a 2-hr event designed to help you build your composition business. The workshop will be held at Columbia College of Chicago (600 S Michigan Ave) from 1-3pm on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

What Do I Get Out Of This?

In this workshop you will learn:

  • The essentials of marketing. This is the same stuff they teach in business school.
  • How to find your audience. I used to think my music was for everybody. Once I started applying this method it made everything so much easier.
  • How to craft a marketing plan. You have to have a strategy and plan so you know what do next.

What If I’m Not a Student?

No problem. This workshop is not just for students. It’s for any composer interested in effectively marketing themselves and their music.

Who’s Leading the Workshop?

Composer and public speaker Dr. Garrett Hope will be leading the workshop. He is active as a composer for education ensembles and films and has over 15 years experience teaching at colleges and universities.

Garrett also hosts The Portfolio Composer, which is the leading podcast on the business of writing music. With nearly 200 episodes released he has interviewed leading composers, authors, performers, and thought leaders. All the episodes are available for free at theportfoliocomposer.com or by subscribing with a pod-catching app.

Garrett also does private and group coaching for composers who want to take their career to the next level.
